Our website contains the following easily accessible information:“28.4 percent of Wandsworth's household waste was recycled, composted or re-used during 2011/12, excluding metals and aggregates recycled from the remains of rubbish sent for incineration at the energy-from-waste plant. Recycling these metals increases Wandsworth's recycling rate to 30 percent. “Households receiving the orange sack recycling service recycled around 34 percent of their waste in 2011/12. Households receiving the orange-lidded bank service recycled around 21 percent. “During 2011/12 the council recycled nearly 2,200 tonnes of litter and composted 220 tonnes of leaves from street cleansing operations. Suitable waste from parks and planted areas on housing estates is composted. “The proportion of all municipal waste that was recycled, including both metals and aggregates recovered from incinerated refuse for recycling (e.g. in road building and construction projects) was 46.7%.”We are extracting metals and aggregates for use in the construction industry from waste that cannot be recycled in any other way, and using residual waste to produce electricity for thousands of homes instead of using fossil fuels. Doing this prevents this waste from being sent to landfill, which the Greens have long advocated. All this information, including the data submitted to Defra, is clearly shown on our website in a wholly transparent and open way. We put it there so that members of the public can see exactly how our recycling figures are reached and can judge our performance for themselves.
