Wandsworth Council’s Access for All scheme has reached more than 10,000 members, less than a year after launching, as residents continue to take up free and discounted access to local services, leisure facilities and cultural events.
Billed by the council as “Britain’s best concession scheme”, Access for All offers eligible residents discounts of between 50% and 100% on a wide range of activities. Since May, members have made almost 60,000 free or discounted visits to the borough’s leisure centres.
Mohammad, a local resident and scheme member, said the programme had already made a significant difference to his family. “I have been using the programme successfully for access to the gym and swimming pools and I have found it to be a very useful scheme,” he said. “In addition, my daughter is benefitting from the Access for All programme by receiving free school lunches, which has been a great help.”
Other members praised the impact on their daily lives, with one describing the scheme as “great – I use it every time I go to the gym”, while local mother Chloe said discounted swimming enabled her to take her children more often to her local pool.
The scheme has also opened up cultural events to more residents. More than 7,000 discounted tickets have been purchased for London Borough of Culture events, including Country on the Common, Battersea Park Fireworks and the upcoming 125th anniversary celebration at The Clapham Grand.
Families are among the biggest beneficiaries. Eligible households can access free school uniform vouchers, free school meals for secondary pupils and free Baby Boxes for new parents. Nearly 300 Baby Boxes have already been distributed.
Council leader Simon Hogg said the milestone showed the value of the scheme to local people. “This milestone shows how much the scheme is valued by our community and reflects our commitment to making Wandsworth a fairer and more inclusive borough,” he said. “The scheme is always growing, with new offers added all the time.”
The council is also expanding Access for All through partnerships with private companies. More than 200 members are already using discounted Lime and Forest e‑bikes and Voi e‑scooters to travel sustainably around the borough.
Access for All sits alongside other support programmes, including Wandsworth’s Cost of Living Fund, the expansion of Family Hubs and the borough’s partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which provides a free book each month to every child under five.
Residents can apply online for a free digital membership card, which is stored in a smartphone wallet or available in physical form. Proof of eligibility is required at the point of application, but members only need to show their card when accessing offers.
Local businesses interested in joining the scheme or offering discounts are encouraged to contact the council.
