Four items can be collected each time
February 10, 2025
Wandsworth Council is offering a new free service for residents which provides free bulky waste collection for every household twice a year.
As part of a drive to reduce fly tipping, the borough says that it will save each family £47 per annum.
The bulky waste collection service offers home collections for larger items such as mattresses, furniture and appliances like washing machines, fridges and freezers. Each free collection can be for up to four items.
Bulky waste is collected in each area on the same day as your usual rubbish and recycling collection days. With over four times the number of appointments available daily, the council says that you should not need to wait longer than a week for your free bulky waste collection.

At the same time there has been a pledge to retain weekly waste and recycling collections, alongside expanding the number of Mega Skip Days.
Judi Gasser, Cabinet Member for Environment, said, “We know cleaner streets are a big priority for residents. Our new bulky waste offer is part of our promise to deliver the best possible service we can.
“As part of our Cleaner Borough Plan, we also promise to keep weekly waste and recycling collections and expand our popular Mega Skip Days which now take place twice a month. All of this without adding a penny to your Council Tax.
“It has never been easier to dispose of your waste. Please make the most of these free collections and secure your slot today.”
This announcement was made alongside the council’s new 7 rings, 7 days guarantee in which it says any call to its dedicated 020 8871 6000 number will be answered by a member of staff within 7 rings. A new email address of hello@wandsworth.gov.uk is also available for residents to get in touch.
The council also pledges that if a resident reports graffiti, a broken street sign, or a dangerous pothole, it will be fixed within 7 days.
Simon Hogg, Leader of Wandsworth Council, said, “The 7 rings, 7 days guarantee is here to make it easier to contact us and to give assurance that if you report graffiti, a dangerous pothole or broken street sign, we will take swift action to fix it.
“We’re taking care of the things that matter to you, so that together we can keep Wandsworth special.”
