Residents in Wandsworth can now report issues such as graffiti, broken street signs and potholes directly through WhatsApp, as the council expands its digital services and pledges to fix problems within seven days.
The new tool allows people to send a message, photo or location pin to the council without filling in online forms. Officials say the aim is to make reporting quicker and more convenient by using a platform already widely used by residents. According to Ofcom, WhatsApp is the UK’s most popular social media app.
The service forms part of the council’s “7 rings, 7 days” guarantee, under which issues reported through the system will be addressed within a week. Problems that can be logged include faulty street lighting, hazardous pavements and fly-posting.
Council leader Simon Hogg said the move was intended to make it easier for residents to get everyday issues resolved. “By bringing reporting straight onto WhatsApp, we’re meeting residents where they already are and giving them a quick, convenient way to tell us when something needs fixing,” he said. He added that the initiative was part of a wider effort to modernise services and improve responsiveness.
The council plans to widen the range of issues that can be reported via WhatsApp in the coming months as it continues to develop its digital access programme.
Alongside the reporting tool, Wandsworth has also launched a WhatsApp Channel to share council news, service updates and local information. The authority says the channel is intended to help residents stay informed and pass updates easily to their own community groups.
Residents can begin using the reporting service immediately by messaging the council’s dedicated WhatsApp number.
You can also follow the council's WhatApp channel.
