Arson Suspected On Garrett Lane

Police Appeal For Witnesses to Come Forward

The occupants of 12 flats in Wentworth Court, Garrett Lane SW18 had to be evacuated after the fire took hold at approx 03.15 on Saturday morning. Police are appealing for witnesses to a suspicious fire at a block of flats in Wandsworth

The seat of the fire is thought to have been one of the storage cupboards in a second floor corridor. No-one was hurt but considerable damage has been done to the block. The people evacuated are of a variety of ages and have not yet been able to return to their homes.

DI Simon Rowe the officer from Wandsworth CID leading the enquiry said:
"We are treating this incident as arson with intent to endanger life and appealing to anyone who may have seen someone acting suspiciously in or near the block of flats this morning.
We are lucky not to be investigating a murder. The fire took hold very quickly and has done an awful lot of damage."

Anyone who has information about the fire should contact Wandsworth CID on 020 8247 8734.
