5 Years For Cash In Transit Robber

On 19th October 1997 Hani Ahmed Aly was the driver, in a cash in transit robbery, Garratt Lane SW18 in which was a cash box was stolen from a security guard leaving Sainsburys, Southside Shopping Centre, Wandsworth.

Aly was arrested after being spotted by police who were in an unmarked vehicle. He claimed that he was punched in the head and forced to drive the robbery vehicle.

He was subsequently arrested and charged with Robbery and committed to Kingston Crown Court for trial. On 9th June 2008 he failed to appear at court and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Enquiries were made to locate the suspect. Meanwhile his trial went ahead in his absence and he was found guilty and was sentenced to five years imprisonment. On 19th October 2008 Aly was stopped by Immigration officers at Heathrow Airport and he was arrested. On 20th November he appeared at Kingston Crown Court to be sentenced and start his five years in prison.
