The RNLI have released a video of a dramatic rescue which took place at night near Hammersmith Bridge last week.

The crew of Chiswick Lifeboat were responding to a call at 1.48am when one of their number spotted a splash in the water as their spotlights scanned the Thames.

They immediately reported to the Coastguard that a person had jumped into the river and moved towards the bridge.

Not long afterwards they came in contact with a woman in distress in the water. Crew members brought her into the lifeboat and made a request for an ambulance to meet them at Chiswick Pier.

Chiswick Lifeboat tweeted, “We are not kidding when we say we are a 24/7 Search & Rescue organisation!”

Chiswick RNLI lifeboat station is the second busiest in the UK and Ireland. Since The RNLI search and rescue service on the Thames started in 2002, Chiswick Lifeboat has attended over 3,700 incidents and rescued over 1,750 people. The RNLI is entirely funded by public donations.
