Western Extension of Congestion Charge Scrapped...

But existing zone suffers fee increase

Following the Mayor’s decision last week to remove the Western Extension of the Congestion Charging zone, a number of other changes are to be made to the remaining scheme, which take effect from January 4th 2011.

The last charging day for the Western Extension will be December 24th 2010 and from then the zone will revert to its former smaller size. The daily charge for the smaller zone will increase to £10 a day from the existing £8, rising to £12 if paid on the day after. Drivers will pay the reduced price of £9 if they are registered for Congestion Charging Auto Pay.

There is no charge for driving on the boundary roads around the zone, and the hours of operation aren't changing. There is also no charge between December 25th 2010 and January 3rd 2011 inclusive.

The decision to remove the Western Extension Congestion Charge follows a public consultation in which more than 60 per cent of the people who responded wanted the zone scrapped.
