Man Killed After Trinity Road Hit and Run

Detectives appealing for witnesses and info after death in Wandsworth

A post-mortem examination took place yesterday at St George's Hospital Mortuary, on the man who died in the traffic incident on the junction of Trinity Road and Magdalen Road on Friday night. Cause of death was given as a head injury.

Police were called at approximately 23:40hrs on Friday 22nd October to reports of a traffic incident on Trinity Road at the junction with Magdalen Road, SW18. Officers and the ambulance service attended and a 40-year-old man was taken to St George's Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 01:53hrs on Saturday.

Police believe they know the man's identity, but await formal identification. Next of kin have been informed.

At this early stage it is thought that two vehicles - a Nissan Micra and a Ford Fiesta - had pulled up at the location, and the drivers left their cars before being involved in an altercation. The driver of the Nissan was then in collision with two vehicles that failed to stop at the scene.

The driver of the Ford Fiesta - a 25-year old man - has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody at a south London police station.

DI Justin Davies says: "Although it was late at night we know a number of vehicles drove past the incident and may have witnessed some part of the events. We ask any witnesses - whether drivers or passengers - who passed through the area at that time to come forward.

"We also directly ask the drivers whose vehicles were in collision with the man to come forward and make themselves known."

An incident room has opened at Sutton under DI Justin Davies of the Homicide and Serious Crime Command. Anyone who can assist should call the incident room on 020 8721 4205; if you wish to remain anonymous please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
