Helpers Needed For Rotary Xmas Dinner

Volunteers wanted for annual pensioners lunch

The Rotary Club of Battersea Park is once again hosting its popular slap-up Christmas Day dinner for 400 local pensioners. For the 47th year running the Rotary Club will be staging its annual festive event in Battersea Park for older residents who would otherwise be spending Christmas alone.

But to make the event a runaway success the organisers need more volunteers who are willing to spend just a little of their time on Christmas Day helping out. The volunteers will help out as guests are collected from their homes and driven to the park, where a heated marquee and a free slap-up Christmas lunch with all the trimmings awaits them - along with live music and dancing.

Each guest will also receive a present and a take-away Christmas night supper before being driven home.

Helpers are needed anytime between 9am and 5pm, and can choose to work all day if they can or just for a few hours in the morning or afternoon. In return they too will also be given a delicious lunch and be able to enjoy the true spirit of Christmas.

People interested in volunteering should contact the Rotary Club of Battersea Park on (020) 8767 3948 or by visiting www.rotarychristmasday.org.uk

There are still also places available for guests who would like to be there on the day. If you have an older relative or neighbour who is going to be alone on Christmas Day and would enjoy a lovely festive lunch and a day out, then call the number above or visit the website and click on the 'contact us' link .

Anyone who wishes to make a donation to the rotary club to help them fund this worthwhile event can do so by visiting www.justgiving.com/rotarychristmasday
