A man is fighting for his life after being hit by a falling telegraph pole in Spanish Road SW18.

The 27 year old was taken to St George's yesterday evening and is in a critical condition. He suffered severe head injuries.

Police have cordoned off the area and the pole remains on the ground.

A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said: "Our staff treated one patient who was resuscitated after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was also treated for a head injury."

Spanish Road is just North of Wandsworth Common and runs off St John's Hill.
