Wandsworth Man Murdered 'During Altercation' At Weekend


Three men have already been arrested but detectives appeal for more information

Detectives have launched a murder enquiry following the death
of a 26 year old Wandsworth man.

Police were called at 14.40hrs on Sunday 5th February to
reports of a man having been assaulted in Holmbury Court,
Upper Tooting Road. On arrival officers found a man suffering from a head injury.

He was taken by ambulance to a south London hospital where he died on Tuesday 7th February.

The man has been formally identified as Anthony Thompson of Derinton Road. His next of kin are aware. A post mortem will be scheduled in due course. An incident room has opened under Detective Chief Inspector Amanda Hargreaves from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command (HSCC).

At this early stage detectives believe that Anthony was with friends when he was assaulted during an altercation in the vicinity of Holmbury Court and are keeping an open mind regarding motive.

A 25 year old man was arrested on Sunday 5th February and a 33 year old man was arrested on Monday 6th February in connection with the inquiry. He has since been bailed until the 21st February. On Tuesday 7th February, a 31 year old man was arrested on suspicion of the murder. He remains in custody.
