A man who assaulted an off duty Police Community Support Officer in Garratt Lane has been jailed for 6 months.

James Wall, 18, of Dalberg Way SE2 was sentenced at Kingston Crown Court after pleading guilty to actual bodily harm.

On 26 April 2012 at about 10.30pm the victim, a 27 year old off duty PCSO from the MPS Safer Transport Command was waiting for a bus in Garratt Lane, Wandsworth SW18, when Wall and another man barged him as they walked passed.

They carried on walking and threw a can towards the bus stop, hitting a pedestrian. The victim challenged the men, who approached and cornered him, before Wall elbowed the victim in the face. Both men then made off.

Police attended and took the victim to hospital, who was treated to a suspected broken nose and cut face.

Wall was picked out of an identification parade and subsequently charged with actual bodily harm. He was bailed to appear at Lavender Hill Magistrates Court on 17 December 2012.

Chief Superintendent Sultan Taylor, Safer Transport Command, said: "This was a completely unprovoked assault on one of our officers who was on his way home from work and this sentence demonstrates how serious assaults on our staff are taken by the Courts and ourselves."
