Drama specially commissioned to coincide with vote centenary
The world premiere of The Rebellious Women of Wimbledon, a new play about the suffragettes by historical dramatist Beth Flintoff, is to take place across south west London in October.
This specially commissioned new play, produced to coincide with the centenary of women’s right to vote, centres on Wimbledon resident Rose Lamartine Yates, and the suffragettes of South West London.
Attic Theatre Company takes the audience into a suffragette meeting and, with a cast of three women, a handful of props and original music, their incredible story vividly comes to life in an impassioned, unsentimental and sharp-witted tribute to the suffragette cause.
The cast includes Valerie Antwi who will play local activist Rose Lamartine Yates. Valerie recently appeared in Mary Stuart at the Duke of York’s Theatre in the West End and in The Merchant of Venice at the Orange Tree Theatre.
Emma Denly is Edith Begbie. Emma recently appeared in The Rivals at the Watermill Theatre and The Woman in the Moon at Shakespeare’s Globe.
And Ellen Attwell will play Bertha Lorsignol. Ellen currently appears in Vanity Fair on ITV.
