Future Of Santander In Wandsworth Looks Uncertain

Following news that the bank is to close 140 branches

Santander has today (January 23) announced that it is to close 140 of its branches across the UK amid increased use of online banking services.

A spokesperson said, "The way our customers are choosing to bank with us has changed dramatically in recent years, with more and more customers using online and mobile channels.

"As a result we have had to take some very difficult decisions over our less visted branches, and those where we have branches in close proxmity."

It is being reported that the Wandsworth High Street branch is among the 140 that are to be closed.

With 1,270 jobs at risk the bank is now in talks with unions and expects approximately a third of staff to be redeployed within the company.
