London Fire Brigade firefighters wearing breathing apparatus have rescued a man from a fire in Wandsworth.

The blaze took hold at a detached house converted into flats on Melrose Road shortly before 8.21am on Tuesday, 20 October.

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to the scene including crews from Wandsworth, Battersea and Tooting fire stations

The rescued man was treated outside the property by London Ambulance Service crews and taken to hospital.

Part of a flat on the lower ground floor of the four-storey building was damaged.

The fire was under control less than an hour after the Fire Brigade arrived at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
