Police ask residents to review their home security
Residents in Wandsworth are being warned about a spate of burglaries in which Asian gold jewellery has been targeted. Asian gold is generally of a higher purity than other gold, and is attractive to thieves at any time, but more so recently as it soars in value.
Police received six reports, between 6th August and 20th August 2012, of homes being broken into in which it appears thieves were specifically searching for gold jewellery.
The burglaries took place in the Furzedown, Graveney and Tooting areas of Wandsworth.
Chief Inspector Dale Anderton of Wandsworth Safer Neighbourhoods said,"I am asking for all local people to work with the police in preventing burglary. I especially seek the help of Asian communities who continue to see their homes targeted for gold jewellery. My promise to them is that we will do all we can to prevent such burglaries and will relentlessly pursue those responsible. However, we can not do this alone and need every resident to make sure they are doing all they can to take personal responsibility for securing their gold jewellery."
"We are increasing patrols and are raising awareness of crime prevention measures which residents can take. Please August 22, 2012 you see anything suspicious call 101.
If you suspect a burglary is actually taking place then please dial 999.
