Wandsworth Town's Amirah's Kitchen Takes Part in Restaurant Awards

Local MP nominates the South Asian eatery

Amirah’s Kitchen in Old York Road has been nominated by local MP, Jane Ellison, to take part in the prestigious Parliament Tiffin Cup competition to find the best South Asian restaurant in the country.

The restaurant will now be visited by a ‘mystery diner’ before going through to the regional finals.  Winners of the regional finals will go through to the national finals which will take place on Tuesday 8th July in the House of Commons.

Jane Ellison said: “I am delighted that my nomination for Amirah’s Kitchen has been accepted and that they will take part in this year’s Tiffin Cup.  I have visited the restaurant on many occasions and they truly deserve to take part in the competition.  My congratulations to Arif and Shajeda Hussain who run the restaurant.”

The Tiffin Cup competition is now in its ninth year and its aim is not only to celebrate the quality of South Asian food in Britain but also to raise much-needed money for charity.  This year the competition is in aid of the charity ‘World Vision’. In 2013, 83 restaurants were nominated by MPs, and Jane’s nomination of the Holy Cow in Balham won them a Highly Commended.
