Wandsworth Council Offering Free Christmas Tree Recycling

Leave it out on collection day or drop it off at a designated spot

Wandsworth Council Offering Free Christmas Tree Recycling
Christmas tree collection started on 6 January

January 10, 2025

Wandsworth Council is offering two options for residents to dispose of your Christmas tree.

They can be left out on your normal collection day or be brought to one of six drop-off sites in the borough, although none of these are in the Putney or Roehampton areas. You can also take your tree to Smugglers Way reuse and recycling centre. Remember you must book a slot to visit Smugglers Way.

The trees are sent for composting so make sure you remove all decorations and any pots or stands. If the tree is over 6 foot tall it must be cut into smaller pieces before collection.

If you have a front garden leave your tree next to your rubbish and recycling bags, not on the street.

If you don’t have a front garden leave it by your front door taking care not to block where people walk.

Report a missed collection if your tree was missed on collection day. Remember it will be collected by a different vehicle, so wait until after 7pm on collection day to report a missed collection online if it has still not been collected. Alternatively, you can also contact the council on the next working day on 020 8871 8558.

You can also take your Christmas tree to one of the following drop-off points until 31 January.

  • Acanthus Road, Battersea, parking bays at the end of the road next to Grayshott playground, SW11 5TY
  • Battersea Park, Albert Bridge Car Park, Albert Bridge Road, SW11 4NU
  • Battersea Park, Chelsea Gate Car Park, Carriage Drive North, SW11 4NJ
  • Nuffield Health Car Park, Burr Road, Wandsworth, SW18 4SQ
  • Tooting Common, Dr Johnson Car Park, SW17 8JU
  • Tooting Leisure Centre Car Park, Greaves Place, SW17 0NE

Cllr Judi Gasser, Cabinet Member for Environment, said, “We’re looking forward to bringing back our Christmas tree collection service in 2024/25. With even more drop-off sites, it’s easier than ever to sustainably dispose of your tree.”

Like Reading Articles Like This? Help Us Produce More

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We've always done that and won't be changing, in fact we'd like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.

We are therefore asking our readers to consider offering financial support to these efforts. Any money given will help support community and public interest news and the expansion of our coverage in this area.

A suggested monthly payment is £8 but we would be grateful for any amount for instance if you think this site offers the equivalent value of a subscription to a daily printed newspaper you may wish to consider £20 per month. If neither of these amounts is suitable for you then contact info@neighbournet.com and we can set up an alternative. All payments are made through a secure web site.

One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute.

If you do support us in this way we'd be interested to hear what kind of articles you would like to see more of on the site – send your suggestions to the editor.

For businesses we offer the chance to be a corporate sponsor of community content on the site. For £30 plus VAT per month you will be the designated sponsor of at least one article a month with your logo appearing if supplied. If there is a specific community group or initiative you'd like to support we can make sure your sponsorship is featured on related content for a one off payment of £50 plus VAT. All payments are made through a secure web site.
