Old Sergeant Wins 'Best Community Pub'

In Great British Pub Awards 2012

A Wandsworth pub has been named as the ‘Best Community Pub’ in the Great British Pub Awards 2012.

The Old Sergeant in Garratt Lane was announced as the winner of the national title at the Publican’s Morning Advertiser awards dinner at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane London.

The Old Sergeant had already been chosen as the ‘Best Community Pub’ in the South East and London region and beat off the challenge of other regional winners to win the national title.

The awards, organised by leading pub industry magazine, the Publican’s Morning Advertiser, are recognised as the Oscars of the pub world.

The pub is run by Lee and Keris Devilliers and Bronwen Cooper.

The Publican’s Morning Advertiser Editor Rob Willock said: “The judges praised the pub’s owners for placing it at the heart of the community, catering for everyone from young couples to families to football fans.

“Judges were impressed by their energy and commitment to giving the local community what they want in terms of hosting charity events, live music and two football teams.

“Despite a tiny kitchen dishes are tailored to individual needs and the pub even delivers meals to regulars who can’t get out.”
