Looking For A Hero

If you know an unsung local hero nominate them for a 2015 Wandsworth Civic Award

The awards are run by the Mayor of Wandsworth as a way of saying thank you to local people who have volunteered their services over a long period of time to help others, including charity workers, community activists or just someone who acts as a helping hand to friends or neighbours - anyone whose tireless work has made a difference to the area.

Last year’s winners include Putney pub landlady Becky Newman (pictured left receiving her award) for her charity fund-raising, Jon Stanton for his work for the charity Back Up, Belleville School governor Kate Amis, prominent Rotarian Liz Shaw and Lynn Evans who has dedicated herself to the Missing People charity.

Mayor of Wandsworth, Councillor Nicola Nardelli, said:
“Since becoming mayor I’ve met so many inspirational people. Our borough is blessed with so many residents who selflessly help others without ever expecting recognition for their work. I want the people who make our community strong and caring to get the thanks they deserve.”
