Wandsworth Get Active Festival Kicks Off

Try scuba diving, walking, climbing, rugby and much more

The Get Active Wandsworth Festival is an annual celebration of sport running from July 9 until July 24. It offers locals the chance to try more than 250 free activities over the two week programme including open days, scuba diving, walking, climbing and rugby.

The aim is to get the whole borough moving regardless of age or ability.

The festival is the brainchild of the Wandsworth Community Sport and Physical Activity Network, also known as Active Wandsworth.

Cllr Jonathon Cook, cabinet member for environment and culture, is encouraging residents to pick up a brochure and put some dates in the diary. He said: "I hope that the momentum gained last year, coupled with the knowledge that the 2012 Games are just around the corner, will inspire thousands more people to take part this time.

"It's fantastic to see so many sports and activities represented, including tennis, dance, healthy walks, football, rugby and much more. I also welcome the participation of local sports clubs, NHS Wandsworth, local schools, private clubs, walk leaders and residents."
