Have Your Say on Locations of e-Bike Parking Bays

Council consulting on a further sixty locations across the borough

Only dockless e-bikes would be allowed in the new parking bays

July 26, 2024

Wandsworth Council is proposing to install a further 60 dedicated parking bays across the borough and is seeking feedback on the locations.

The proposed sites are in the following borough wards: Balham, Falconbrook, Furzedown, Lavender, Roehampton, Southfields, St Mary’s, Thamesfield, Tooting Broadway, Trinity, Wandle, Wandsworth Common and West Putney. Residents can view an interactive map and list of the streets where the bays would be situated.

The council says it is keen to stop careless parking dockless e-bikes that results in pavement obstructions for pedestrians – a problem felt most keenly by parents with buggies, wheelchair users and residents who are blind or visually impaired.

The bays have been chosen on the basis that these bikes can be safely parked without impacting pedestrians. In most cases it will mean the loss of existing parking spaces for motor vehicles.

Jenny Yates, Wandsworth’s Cabinet Member for Transport, said,“We think e- bikes offer a really useful and environmentally-friendly travel option for both residents and visitors to the borough. But we know that in some cases they are abandoned or parked inconsiderately and end up blocking pavements, making life difficult for pedestrians, especially those with disabilities.

“I’m pleased to say we have drawn up a further list of dedicated spaces where e-bikes can be picked up and dropped off without causing obstructions to others. At the same time, we are continuing to work closely with e-bike operators to ensure that customers are more responsible when they end their journeys.

“We have written to residents in the roads where we propose to locate the new parking bays for e-bikes and look forward to hearing their views in the coming weeks.”

Our online consultation on the proposed locations is open until 1 September at E-bikes Hire and E-scooter Rental Bays Consultation Phase 2 - Have your say - Citizen Space
