Nominate Your Young Person Of The Year

The award recognises & honours qualities in the youth of the borough

The award honours those young people in the community who deserve recognition for their achievements, courage, generous attitude or ability to overcome difficult personal circumstances.

By recognising and honouring these qualities, the awards scheme aims to encourage young people to make a positive contribution to life in the borough.

The overall individual winner will receive a trophy and a £500 cash prize. A group of young people who carry out voluntary work in the borough will also receive funding of £100 as part of the awards scheme.

The award is open to young people who had not reached their 19th birthday on September 1, 2010, and either live or attend a school or college in the borough. Nominees should themselves be aged over 18.

Nominations can focus on outstanding achievement in education, sports or the arts, for making a major contribution to their school or local community and for those young people who’ve overcome difficulties or setbacks to achieve their goals.

Cllr Angela Graham, chairman of the Wandsworth Young Person of the Year Award board of trustees said:
"This authority has always taken pride in the achievements and talents of its young people.  However, while many examples of courage and self-sacrifice are brought to our attention, many others go unnoticed and unrecognised.  This is where these awards come in. They help ensure that all that hard work, determination and selflessness can be publicly acknowledged and rewarded."

The scheme, now in its 19th year, is organised by the council and sponsored by The Wandsworth Group of Rotary Clubs and The Keen Group.  Nomination forms are available in the borough's libraries, leisure centres and council reception areas. Once completed these should be returned to the town hall’s integrated youth support services before January 31, 2011.
