Sadiq Khan Launches Bid To Become London Mayor

"I'll roll up my sleeves and fight for all Londoners"

Tooting MP Sadiq Kahn announced today that he is campaigning to be the Labour party candidate for London Mayor.

On Monday he resigned from his Shadow Cabinet positions as Justice Minister and Minister for London.

Sadiq was relected as MP for Tooting last week and has served in that position since 2005. Previously he was a Wandsworth borough councillor and was a human rights solicitor.

As well as tweeting "It's official: I'm running to be your next Mayor", he also pledged "I will roll up my sleeves and fight for all Londonders".

The selection contest for the 2016 Mayoral battle officially begins today (May 13th). MP Diane Abbott, former cabinet minister and MP Dame Tessa Jowell, Tottenham MP David Lammy and journalist Christian Wolmar have also announced their candidacies for the Labour bid.
