Justine Greening Welcomes Longer Trains

”Great news for local commuters as it will provide much needed extra capacity"

Putney, Roehampton & Southfields MP, Justine Greening, today welcomed the running of the first ever 10-car regular passenger trains between Putney and Waterloo.

Justine said:” The new 10-car service is great news for local commuters as it will provide much needed extra capacity at peak times. It will be used to operate 14 different train services on this line offering an extra 28 carriages a day on this route which should help to address the overcrowding issues that residents have faced up to now.

“The new service is an important step in the delivery of an investment programme by South West Trains and Network Rail to improve rail services on this busy route. There will be a further 98 carriages rolled out over the next 12 months which will provide yet more space for passengers. Later this year platforms at the former Waterloo International station will also be re-opened for passenger use.

“Together with the improvements at Putney station, I hope that these measures will bring real benefit to local residents who use these services.”
