More Help For Those With Mental Health Problems

PCT's to be offered funding of £1.2m for common mental health problems

This is good news for the PCT and local people as it means they will have more funding to deliver psychological therapies in GP practices and other community settings, including training Psychological Therapists from October 2009. The PCT will also be able to offer NICE approved self-help, psychological therapies and employment related support to our borough’s diverse communities.

This offer comes as part of the second wave of the National Improving Access to Psychological Therapies Programme, a £49 million Primary Care initiative sponsored by NHS London and delivered by the London Development Centre for people with common mental health problems. Wandsworth PCT has been chosen by the ‘Working for Wellness’ (WfW) board to become a two year ‘Working for Wellness Service’ as part of this.

Dr Peter Ilves said, “We are delighted to have been made an offer from the WfW Board to become a two year Working for Wellness Service as this will mean we can continue to improve the health and well-being of people in Wandsworth. It is important that we do everything to support people with mental health problems, and this funding will allow us to help them improve their health and wellbeing and retain, or return to, employment.

“For us to continue strengthening services in Wandsworth, it is hugely important for local organisations to continue to work together, and for us to continue to engage with the public, so we can reduce health inequalities and improve the health of the borough”
