The Affordable Housing Open Day 22 October 2015
Open the Door 2015 is aimed at first time buyers who live and work in Wandsworth and earn up to a maximum household income of £80,000, and are council tenants. It is completely free to attend.
It offers information about the advice, support and financial assistance available from the town hall, as well as information on the various schemes that could help you get on the housing ladder.
You will be able to meet with the council’s Home Ownership team and local housing providers to find out about the options available. They include:
Shared Ownership - where you can part buy/part rent
Intermediate Rent - where you can benefit from a discounted rent
Council tenants can find out about schemes specifically aimed at them, such as:
Right to Buy
House Purchase Grants (Portable Discounts)
Right to Buy Mobility Grant
Housing moves to smaller or sheltered accommodation.
Independent financial and legal advisors will be there to give personal advice on mortgages and the buying process.
Wandsworth's Housing Lettings team will also be available to answer enquiries from council tenants who wish to transfer into another more suitable property.
The event is organised by the council's Home Ownership Team, which manages a list of eligible buyers who live or work in Wandsworth. Many of the new affordable homes being built in Wandsworth can be purchased on shared ownership terms by local buyers who live or work in the borough and who are on the list.
Wandsworth's housing spokesman, Cllr Paul Ellis, said: "The annual Open the Door event is a way of providing a one-stop-shop service to people who want to get on the housing ladder, but don’t know where to start.
“Our priority as a council is to work to make sure affordable homes are being built in Wandsworth, and to help people navigate the many house purchase schemes available.”
