Take The 28 Day Stoptober Challenge

Get help to quit smoking this Stoptober

Launched in 2012, Stoptober is the 28-day stop smoking challenge that encourages and supports smokers across England towards quitting for good. You can sign up now ready to start quitting on October 1. You will receive an email each day with tips and encouragement to help keep you on track.

In Wandsworth, smoking is the single biggest cause of preventable deaths. However, the number of people who smoke in Wandsworth has fallen to 13.7 per cent – down from a fifth of residents in 2011/12.

While most people either quit on their own or never started, for those who need help giving up, the council’s Stop Smoking Service is on hand. The service helped 1,340 people to quit last year, including 116 young people and 25 pregnant women.

The council’s health spokesman Cllr Jim Maddan said:
“Giving up smoking is the single biggest step you can take to improve your health. Figures show that if you can stop smoking for 28 days you are five times more likely to quit for good and would save almost £2,000 a year. That’s why we’d urge our residents to set themselves the Stoptober challenge.”
