Crew Gives Support To The Putney Man In "The Toughest Foot Race On Earth"

as Paul Garner prepares for 152 miles through the Sahara Desert in Morrocco

Two local businesses on the Lower Richmond Road have given their support to Paul who in March 2009 I will be taking part in the Marathon des Sables. Known as "the toughest foot race on earth", the race covers a distance of over 152 miles through the Sahara Desert in Morrocco.

The Crew Barber and Bunches & Pots are the first of many (Paul hopes) Putney businesses to put their money where their mouth is!

What is the Marathon des Sables?
152 miles through the Sahara - with no assistance!  Paul will have to be totally self-sufficient. He will be carrying everything he needs in a rucksack. This includes all food, eating/cooking utensils, medicines, clothes, sleeping bag, mat, head-torch and mandatory equipment.

In preparation for the event, he will be attempting to run Hastings 100th Anniversary Marathon twice (back to back) on Sunday 14th December. Due to the distance of 52.4 miles I will be starting the challenge at 04:30 in the morning with the intention of meeting the mass crowd for the official start 09:30.

Why is he running?
Paul likes a challenge and want to raise sponsorship for Mencap; the leading UK charity for people with a learning disability and their families.
