New community online radio station Wandsworth Radio is launching on Monday 12th January at 7.30pm at WandsworthRadio.com
The first voice you'll hear will be The Mayor of Wandsworth, Councillor Stuart Thom but what song will be the first played?
Wandsworth Radio would like you to decide. Station director Jason Rosam said... "I wanted the first song to have a connection with some of the areas across Wandsworth and the only track I could come up with was Petula Clarke's 'Meet me in Battersea Park'.... So, I thought the people of Wandsworth may do a better job and find a song connected with Battersea, Putney, Wandsworth, Balham, Tooting or any other part of Wandsworth."

Programmes will celebrate Wandsworth Hundreds of volunteers are preparing radio shows dedicated to celebrating Wandsworth and its people. The station will play all the latest popular music in the daytime for listeners working in offices and shops, interspersed with local news and chat from volunteer presenters.
One of the most challenging aspects will be creating a daily local news programme called 'Wandsworth Tonight' which will air every weekday from 6.30pm to 6.45pm, involving over thirty volunteer journalists who are finding stories and interviewing people all over the borough. Straight after that, every night a children's 'Story Time' programme (6.45pm to 7pm) will hopefully help parents send the little ones off to sleep. After 7pm the community programming begins with specialist music shows, a chance for local bands to play live, the local comedy scene and arts and culture will be highlighted and local issues covered including a 'Green' show and a dedicated business broadcast for local firms.
The station has already signed up a number of local businesses who want to advertise on the station at very affordable rates. All of the funds raised through advertising will be invested back into running the station.
