Introducing The New Mayor For Wandsworth

As he announces his support for three local charities

The new Mayor of Wandsworth has pledged to raise money for Wandsworth-based charities leading the way in working with vulnerable people and those with disabilities.

Stuart Thom lives in Battersea, is a councillor for Fairfield ward, a former chairman of the Housing Committee and has been a councillor for eight years.

He has held senior positions in international business and was First Secretary (Commercial) at the British Embassy in Moscow and Business Development Director for Ernst & Young in Russia.
“I hope my international business and diplomatic experience will be of value to Wandsworth in assisting with, and promoting, investment in the borough, as well as supporting the activities of the Wandsworth Chamber of Commerce to develop our smaller companies which are so important in generating local jobs,” he said.

The mayor has chosen to support three local charities:
• Share helps people with mental disabilities become more independent
• The Back Up Trust helps people with physical disabilities, particularly spinal injuries
• HomeStart gives practical support to vulnerable parents in their home to help them build strong, healthy and happy families.

The new mayor is also a Trustee of the Wandsworth Museum and a Governor of South Thames College.

New Deputy Mayor Richard Field is a Councillor for Nightingale Ward and Deputy Chairman of Education and Children's Services OCS. He has worked in the International property Industry and was a RICS visiting lecturer at the College of Estate Management at Reading University Campus. He also spent ten years in Rugby Football Union, including marketing the England team.
He is a former mentor to the Prince's Trust and is developing a new Wandsworth Heritage Awards for Schools competition.
