On-street bike lockers set to come to local streets

Another success for Wandsworth Cycling Campaign (WCC) as Cyclehoop 'Bike Hangars' look set to come to local streets soon.Jon Irwin, Campaigns co-ordinator for WCC, was contacted by Cyclehoop who manage the 'Bike Hangars' in Lambeth where 40 such lockers have already been installed. The bike lockers, which offer secure on-street parking for 6 bikes and take about half a car parking bay, have been rolled out following huge demand from residents.Cyclehoop told Jon that, in their discussions with council officers, Wandsworth Council would be happy to trial two bikehangers if local residents requested them.Jon added: "This goes along with discussions we've had with Councillor King (Cabinet Member for Transport).  It is unfortunate that Wandsworth Council is not currently able to advertise this exciting opportunity via the Council's website, but we are hopeful this will be rectified once the first lockers are installed."The challenge for the local cycling group is reaching out to people who would like to cycle, but don't for many reasons. If lack of cycle parking where you live is an issue that stops you cycling, do get in touch so that you can perhaps have the first bike hangar in Wandsworth on your street. Also worth copying in our Active Travel Champion, Councillor John Locker too with any requests.Tweet: @wandscyclistfacebook.com/wandscyclistActive Travel Champion: Cllr John Locker - jlocker@wandsworth.gov.ukUpdate: Cyclehoop have now got a simple form on their website where you can enter your details. They will then be able to follow up on your request with the council - http://www.cyclehoop.com/rentals/
